A two-stage job: netting and tying off a failing rooftop sign structure, then deconstructing and lowering it for about half the price of a crane.
The brief.
A two-stage job: netting and tying off a failing rooftop sign structure, then deconstructing and lowering it for about half the price of a crane.
This was a two-stage project. During a façade painting and remediation job, the contractor noticed significant issues with the fixings and bolts holding the large steel I-beams that supported the Novotel sign. We were engaged to install a make safe net and tie off the components over the school holiday period, working with their engineer on a cost-effective but very safe netting and anchoring system.
Three months later we returned to deconstruct the structure: installing additional anchorage, systematically dismantling the steel and cutting it into pieces to lower to the ground. Given the weights involved we had an advanced rigger on site and used a lot of rigging gear rather than rope access gear. Workplace Health and Safety reviewed our safe work procedure and were very happy with the methodology and documentation we provided at short notice. We also saved the client considerable money, coming in at about half the price of a crane.
The work up close.
