Failing, water-filled expansion joints cut out and rebuilt with a premium Tremco system and painted for coastal UV protection.
The building was suffering significant water leaks. Detailed visual and destructive testing of the expansion joints showed they'd been installed poorly and were failing. When we opened them up a lot were full of water, with incorrect backing rod and no sign of primer. In many places the sealant came out by hand and the joints were full of mould.
We rebuilt them with a premium system: Tremco closed-cell backing rod, 171 porous primer and Dymonic FC sealant, so the joints would last. Given how close the building is to the coast, we finished them with Dulux AcraShield paint to protect them in a very UV-damaging environment.
