Allegra, Paint & Substrate Rectification
Ending a cycle of failing repaints by grinding back to sound substrate, fixing the underlying defects and building the coating up properly.
The brief.
Ending a cycle of failing repaints by grinding back to sound substrate, fixing the underlying defects and building the coating up properly.
Allegra had ongoing problems with paint bubbling and delaminating. We got the Dulux rep on site to help investigate, and it pointed to the building not being cleaned or primed properly during construction.
Previous contractors had simply repainted over the top. As we scraped back we found green mould between layers of patch repainting. Rather than another band-aid, we brought in H-class dust extractors and used shrouded grinders with cupping discs to remove the coatings on the worst areas, and repaired the concrete and substrate defects underneath.
We then built the system back up with a Dulux solvent-based primer, a texture coat to match the existing façade, and a colour-matched Dulux AcraShield Advanced topcoat. The repairs were more extensive than the previous attempts, but we found and solved the underlying cause, so they weren't paying to fix the same areas over and over.
The work up close.
